City’s new Mayor takes office after Lichfield Guildhall ceremony

More than 150 civic dignitaries have gathered to see in he new Mayor of Lichfield.

The role for this year will be filled by councillor Chris Spruce after his investiture at he Guildhall.

In accepting the position Cllr Spruce thanked his fellow councillors for their support and paid tribute to the work of the outgoing Mayor, Cllr Terry Thomas, and Sheriff, Simon Price, who had together raised more than £10,000 for their charities during their year of office.

Cllr Spruce is a Chartered Accountant by profession and has recently retired as Bursar of the Cathedral School.  He is a keen supporter of the Garrick Youth Theatre and Shakespeare in the Park and has been a city councillor since May 2007 where he represents the St John’s Ward.

The new Deputy Mayor is Cllr Brian Bacon, who was also elected to the city council in May 2007, but has previously served in civic office as the consort to his wife Norma who was Mayor in 2005 and Sheriff in 2008.

Completing the civic team is the new Sheriff of Lichfield, Cllr Colin Greatorex.

Cllr Greatorex has been a city resident for 19 years and a city councillor since 2001, representing the Stowe Ward.  He was Mayor of the city in 2006.
