Visitors to the 31st Newborough Well Dressing near Lichfield have been thanked for helping raise money for good causes.

The event, which had the theme of the Great British Seaside, saw well boards featuring everything from donkey rides to lighthouses, while other attractions including traditional seaside stocks, seaside snapshots, candy floss and real donkey rides for children, the event created a real feeling of summer seaside holidays.

The village welcomed the Right Reverend Gordon Mursell, Bishop of Stafford and Bishop William Mchombo from Eastern Zambia, who joined the Reverend Alex Mann to open the Well Dressing with a family service which was then followed by the crowning of the May Queen and the Blessing of the Wells.

The Needwood C.E (VA) Primary School Maypole Dancers performed throughout the afternoon and other attractions this year included the Uttoxeter Town Brass Band, Touch of Life urban dance crew, the Air Ambulance Simulator Pod and Smash the Crockery.

As well as offering a fun family day out, the Newborough Well Dressing event raises substantial funds for good causes and this year the money raised from the event will be donated to local groups including the Newborough C.E. (VA) Primary School PTA and All Saints’ Church

Tracey Harte of Newborough Well Dressing Committee said:

“It was fantastic to welcome so many visitors to this year’s Well Dressing and yet again it proved to be a really good day out for all the family. We would like to thank all our visitors for supporting us and all those who worked so hard once again to make the event possible.”
