Staffordshire County Council have elected Councillor Erica Bayliss as their new chairman and the first female to hold the position.

Chairman Erica Bayliss was previously vice chairman and takes over from County Councillor Rex Roberts OBE. Chairman Bayliss is also a Lichfield District councillor for the Hammerwich ward.

Upon taking the civic chains, Chairman Bayliss paid tribute to the former chairman who she said had supported her ever since she joined the county council in 1985.

Rex has been the voice of sound common sense and over the years has been a colleague and good friend. He and his wife Anne have been great ambassadors and it’s been a great pleasure to serve with them.

Rex is held in high esteem the length and breadth of Staffordshire and beyond.

She added that she intended to continue his work and said, “It is a privilege to become the Chairman of this great and historic shire county of Staffordshire.

County Councillor Frank Lewis was elected to replace Bayliss as Vice Chairman.
