Burntwood Waste Recycling Centre to close

recycle-staffordshireStaffordshire County Council have announced that Burntwood Waste Recycling Centre is to close permanently from Monday 5th July.

The site is considered to be uneconomic because of it’s size and the investment required. The closure is part of the council’s look at all the services it delivers to make sure they deliver value for money.

Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Infrastructure Robert Marshall said,

“The closure is part of the ongoing reassessment of all aspects of the county council’s operations to ensure maximum value for money and efficiency for the tax payer.

“In the current economic climate all councils and government nationally are facing tough choices across the board. This is about careful and responsible management of limited public funds.”

He continued, It is only 3.5 miles from Burntwood to Cannock Household Waste Recycling Centre and not far to Lichfield and Rugeley centres. Other residents across Staffordshire routinely travel this distance to access a centre.”

Further information, including the location of other recycling centers, can be found on the Recycling for Staffordshire web site.
