People visiting Chasewater Country Park are being warned not to disturb rare birds that are nesting on the reservoir’s shore

The young Little Ringed Plovers nest on the ground among pebbles, and, as they are extremely well camouflaged, they could easily be disturbed by walkers or dogs.

To keep these rare birds safe, Lichfield District Council’s countryside team has fenced off large sections of the shoreline.

Councillor Neil Roberts, Lichfield District Council’s Cabinet Member for Development Services, said:

“It is extremely important that all visitors to Chasewater Country Park keep away from these fenced off areas, and keep their dogs under close control. This is essential because Little Ringed Plovers are protected by law, and it is an offence to disturb them or their nests.”
