Riders prepare for the first family cycle ride

People from across Lichfield have taken part in the first of a series of family cycle rides.

The initiative saw 28 people following experienced cycle ride leaders as they took in the sights of National Route 54 of the National Cycle Network – from Lichfield to Fradley Junction.

On the day Freedom Cycles offered every rider a free cycle safety check before they set off, to make sure their bikes were up scratch.

The riders were led to Fradley Junction where they wandered around the nature reserve and had an ice cream, before heading back to Lichfield.

Councillor Neil Roberts, Lichfield District Council’s Cabinet Member for Development Services, said:

“There are lots of fantastic cycle routes in the district. We thought this would be a good way to encourage families to get on their bikes to keep fit and enjoy the scenery. I am pleased the first cycle ride of the series was such a success, and hope lots of people join us on the upcoming rides.”

There are lots more rides taking place this summer and autumn. The Sunday rides will set off on August 8, 22 and 29, September September 12, and October 3 and 24. Details, such as the routes and booking information, will be published nearer the time at www.lichfielddc.gov.uk/familycyclerides.

All ages and abilities are welcome, but cyclists taking part will need to bring their own bike and cycle helmet, and children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
