Bin collection changes ahead for Lichfield and Burntwood residents

Bin collection days across Lichfield and Burntwood are changing.

The changes have come about as Lichfield District Council prepares to begin a shared waste and recycling service with Tamworth Borough Council from July 5.

Leaflets are being delivered to homes across the area to inform them of the changes.

Councillor Michael Wilcox, Leader of Lichfield District Council, said:

“I would like to thank all our residents in advance for getting to grips with the change. I know that once everyone has got used to their new day, they will enjoy the same level of high service they have come to expect.

“What’s more, by working together with Tamworth, we will help to cut carbon emissions by reducing the amount of miles our trucks travel overall. As a bigger customer we will also get better value from suppliers, and be in a position to test out new recycling methods more quickly. We will also be better placed to respond to emergencies, such as bad weather. Above all, we’re confident the partnership will deliver better value for money.”

Anyone who has not received news of the change to their bin days by July 2 is asked to call Lichfield District Council on 01543 308999.

here we are again with good old lichfield council again in which my my black bin is over flowing due to be empted monday and so you going to stretch emptying it to friday 9th july almost three weeks of waiting for black bin waste collection, you can change the dates to merge with tamworth after and i mean after my bin is emptied you have two weeks then to sort it why should i keep my waste extra five days ??? , i thought the days of rubbish filling the streets like when old labour was around were long gone, seems there coming back, its like in the snow start of year a good old month with no collection its amazing how you lovely people never forget to collect my council tax money every month. i think the councils must be run by fagin and his apprentice the artful doger.

Andrew, are you saying that you object to the routine household waste collection service being made more efficient simply because it will create a one-off collection delay of 4 (not 5) days for you whilst they implement the change?

“Andrew” You do not seem to understand the problems councilors have.
We are told they have ,or will have, saved us a great deal of cash on this project.
This gives the councilors a massive problem – what new project do they spend/waste it on?
Now if they said they have just sacked half the staff and asked the other half to work a full week now and then coupled with reducing my tax bill I would agree they are being efficient.

    Yeah Taxpayer. It’s that simple.

Given the enormous financial pressures on the public sector at the moment, I’ll bet officers and Members at Lichfield and Tamworth Councils are kicking themselves for not thinking of that brilliant solution themselves.

You seem to know such a lot about it, Mr Payer. Why don’t you share some more wisdom and tell us how it can all be done better and solve all our problems?
