Organisers of a scheme to bring watersports to a pool in Lichfield are celebrating after hundreds of youngsters began taking to the water.

Canoes and sailing boats have moved to Stowe Pool after being relocated from Chasewater during recent work to repair a dam at the reservoir.

The relocation of the activities was organised by Staffordshire County Council and Lichfield District Council.

Staffordshire County Council’s Deputy Leader Ian Parry, who is also Cabinet member for Children, Young People and Families, said:

“Hundreds of children have been enjoying traditional water sports since the activities were moved to this picture perfect setting. It is the ideal opportunity for young people to enjoy the great outdoors and to learn the skills involved in canoeing and sailing – traditional sports which date back many, many years.

“The views around Stowe Pool are both breathtaking and tranquil and showcase the wonderful countryside that Staffordshire has to offer.”

Councillor Val Richards, Lichfield District Council’s Cabinet member for Leisure Services, added:

“It is wonderful to see children enjoying learning how to sail on Stowe Pool. I am delighted they are not missing out on this opportunity.”
