The work of author Robert Muchamore has been chosen as the top read for Staffordshire teenagers.

Brigands M.C. came out on top at the Young Teen Fiction Award celebration day at the Staffordshire County Showground.

Young people from Lichfield, Burntwood and the rest of the county have been nominating and voting for their favourite books since October.

Around 200 pupiles took part in the celebration day and heard a talk from guest author Alan Gibbons and storyteller Peter Chand.

Councillor Ben Adams, County Councillor and Cabinet Lead for Communities and Culture, said:

“Every year Staffordshire’s School Library Service runs the Young Teen Fiction Award to encourage young people to shout about the books that they enjoy and every year I am delighted by the impassioned response of our young people.

“Staffordshire’s teenagers obviously feel very strongly about what they like and do not like to read and I want to encourage every 11-14 year old to make their view count in next year’s award.”
