Firefighters in Lichfield have played their part in making a video an internet hit.
Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service launched their Push the Button spoof to help raise awareness of their smoke alarm campaign.
And in its first week, the video – which features staff from across the county – was viewed more than 12,500 times.
The force’s head of marketing and communications, Philip Gillingham, said:
“The video has proved more successful than we ever thought and the feedback we are getting is fantastic. Hopefully it will have prompted people to check their smoke alarms and if it helps save the life of at least one person, it has been a very worthwhile campaign as far as we are concerned.”
Chief Fire Officer Peter Dartford said:
“We’re continually trying new and innovative ways to get the message out there, about the importance of having smoke alarms and checking them on a regular basis, but a lot of people still aren’t listening.
“Hopefully they will now after hearing this song and watching the video – you just can’t help but listen to the words and laugh at the video. If the message gets across as we hope, thousands of people across Staffordshire will be testing their smoke alarms on a weekly basis.”
