Extended opening hours for Burntwood recycling centre saved from closure

Mar 27, 2011 by Ross

Burntwood’s tip is to have its opening hours extended – just months after it was saved from closure.

The household recycling centre will join 12 others across the county in extending their hours now British Summer Time has begun.

The centre was only saved from closure after a u-turn by Staffordshire County Council following a campaign by local residents.

Lichfield’s tip will also be open from 9am to 6pm Monday to Friday and 9am to 5pm on Saturdays and Sundays from today (March 27).

Cllr Mark Winnington, cabinet member for environment and assets, said:

“These extra hours will make it easier for people to have a good spring clean and offer residents every chance to help boost Staffordshire’s recycling rates.  The recycling centres accept a wide range of unwanted goods, from electric drills to toasters and hairdryers so it has never been easier to give outmoded products a new lease of life.”

  1. This isn’t really ‘news’ as such unless Cllr Winnick wants to issue a another news release saying the hours will be REDUCED when BST ends! In fact Labour did extend the hours when residents wanted to use the site i.e. at weekends and bank holidays by closing it on two weekdays. And don’t forget it’s only saved until 2013 – no guarantee after that by the Tories at the County.
