Green-fingered glory has been gained after the winners of the Burntwood in Bloom contest were announced.

Local residents have been battling out across a range of categories, but the overall prize eventually went to Mr & Mrs Littler.

  • Overall winner: Mr & Mrs Brian Littler.
  • Judges’ favourite entry: Anthony Sorroll.
  • Best commercial premises: Burntwood News.
  • Best dressed shop or office window: Burntwood News.
  • Best community project or premises: 3-7 Lilac Grove (1st), Highfields Primary School (2nd), St Anne’s Church (3rd). Commended: St John Ambulance Cadets and St John’s Community Church.
  • Best under 12 project: Highfields Primary School (1st), Fulfen Primary School (2nd).
  • Best over 12 project: St John Ambulance Cadets.
  • Best rear garden: Mr & Mrs B Littler (1st), Mr & Mrs G Rigby (2nd), Anthony Sorroll (3rd). Highly commended: Mr & Mrs B Bettesworth. Commended: Pauline Dodd, Ruth Hanslow, Karen Willmore.
  • Best front garden: Rob Gregory (1st), Mr & Mrs B Littler (2nd), Mrs M Brown (3rd). Commended: Mr & Mrs B Bettesworth, Mary Cope, Wendy Freeth, Colin George, Mick Hart, Mr & Mrs G Rigby.
  • Best container or trough: Mrs M Boulton (1st), Arthur Talbot (2nd), Maureen Pestridge (3rd). Commended: Arthur Styles, Joy Blackmore.
  • Best hanging basket: Mrs M Boulton (1st), Arthur Talbot (2nd), Arthur Styles (3rd). Commended: Maureen Pestridge.
