A free course giving people the chance to become a certified first aider for children is set to start.

The six weeks of sessions in paediatric first aid will start on October 3, from 1pm to 3pm, at Armitage with Handsacre Village Hall.

Looking at first aid for babies, children and young people, the course will include resuscitation, care of an unconscious casualty, shock, burns, asthma and epilepsy, incident management, choking, minor and common injuries and illnesses and more.

Councillor Colin Greatorex, cabinet member for organisational development and community, said:

“This course is aimed at residents from the Armitage with Handsacre area. It is ideal for parents with children, or anyone who is thinking about a carer in child care. It will be an interesting course, and is a really useful qualification to hold.”

The paediatric first aid course is aimed at anyone who is 19 years of age or over. To book your free place, contact South Staffordshire College’s enrolment hotline on 01827 304433. For more information about the course, please call 01827 304337. A crèche is available, but there are limited places. To find out more, call Rachel Milner on 01889 256007.

The paediatric first aid course is being run by South Staffordshire College, and funded by Sure Start Children’s Centres and Lichfield District Council. It is also supported by Staffordshire County Council.
