Burntwood Leisure Centre is celebrating its tenth birthday by opening its doors for free.

The new centre opened on January 21, 2002, and the milestone will be marked with an event on the same date this year to showcase the facilities and classes on offer.

Free badminton and squash courts, swimming, and aerobic classes will be on offer as well as free admission to Inspire gym for pay-as-you-go members.

As well as the free activities, sports clubs will be on hand to offer demonstrations and free trials, and there will be special membership deals available to anyone who signs up to become a member on the day.

Councillor Val Richards, Lichfield District Council’s cabinet member for leisure services, said: “We hope lots of people come along and help us celebrate ten fantastic years of helping people to keep fit and have fun.

“From the swimming pools and gym, through to all the classes, Burntwood Leisure Centre offers great value facilities to the local community. There will be lots of fun activities for the whole family to enjoy, so do come along and enjoy the party.”

Paul Watson, Burntwood Leisure Centre’s manager, added: ”The last ten years have flown by, and it’s been a pleasure to see how the leisure centre has grown over that time.

“The open day will be an opportunity to thank our members and a great way to show first-time visitors what we have got to offer.”

The birthday celebrations will run from 9am to 5pm on January 21. For more information call 01543 308810 or visit www.lichfielddc.gov.uk/blc10.
