The launch of Lichfield’s 2012 visitor and what’s on guides has been given a helping hand by one of the events it will promote.

From the centenary of the sinking of the Titanic in April and this summer’s Olympic Torch Relay, through to the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations, 2012’s Visit Lichfield and What’s On guides are full of events to make sure this year is a busy one for locals and tourists alike.

Lichfield District Council launched the two tourism guides – Visit Lichfield 2012 and the spring and summer edition of What’s On – to tourist partners and special guests at the Lichfield Garrick – with a little help from Lichfield Mysteries cast members.

Councillor Louise Flowith, Lichfield District Council’s cabinet member for tourism, said: “I am delighted to launch our visitor and events guides.

“The publications show just how many attractions we have and just how many events are taking place this spring and summer. From the Edward Wightman’s 400th anniversary and the centenary of the sinking of RMS Titanic, to the Queen’s Jubilee and the Olympic Torch Relay, 2012 is set to be a fantastic year.”

Visit Lichfield 2012 gives tourists a taste of what the district has to offer when planning a day trip or a longer stay, while the What’s on guide features more than 160 district events from March to August.

Around 40,000 copies of this year’s visitor guide are being sent to tourist attractions and tourist information centres all over the country.

In the meantime, Visit Lichfield 2012 and the spring and summer edition of What’s On guides are available at Lichfield’s Tourist Information Centre in the Lichfield Garrick. So, if local people are looking for something exciting to do on their doorstep, or want to find out what is on, they can pop into the theatre and pick up their free copies.

I have always believed in the strength of a community when they work together and a local radio station seems an ideal way of promoting this!
