He posed as a bogus official from the water board needing to make a fitting inside the property on Church Road at 8am on April 17.

The man went into the lounge and asked for a cup of tea, but the woman felt uneasy and he left a short while later.

The offender is described as white, aged in his 30s, around 5ft 6ins tall with an oval-shaped face and dark hair. He was wearing a navy blue fleece jacket and dark trousers. He may have been using a plain white van or estate car.

Residents are asked to be vigilant and are reminded that there is no such company as the water board.

Witnesses should ring DC Michael Stretch at Staffordshire Police on 101, quoting incident 132 of 17 April. Alternatively, they can ring independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
