Plans for a new wind turbine in Lichfield have been submitted.

The structure – which would reach 86.5m high at the top of the blades – could be built at Sheepwash Farm in Whittington if Lichfield District Council give it the go-ahead.

The 500kw wind turbine proposal has already been outlined in an open day at the site in February.

The owners say that solar panels already provided the farm with 25 per cent of its energy and they believe the installation of the turbine would mean they became “self sufficient in electricity”.

A statement supporting the application added: “Consequently, the turbine would provide a local benefit and contribute towards local carbon reduction targets.”

People can see the full plans and have their say on the proposals via Lichfield District Council’s planning website.
