A new car park has opened at Lichfield Trent Valley Station.

The facility will be welcome news for passengers who regularly find the main parking bays full by early morning.

The new car park – which accesses the station via platform two – opened this morning (February 17) and will provide an extra 120 spaces.

Other improvements will include improvements to the ticket office and waiting room.

A London Midland spokesperson said: “Modernising passenger facilities at Lichfield Trent Valley station has been a long-standing priority for London Midland and will be of significant benefit to customers travelling on the Cross City route and services to London and the North West.”

Great news that a new car park has opened. But how on earth do you find it??

Shame rail users still park on private roads.

Nice new car park but is it any wonder at £7 per day (£14 for two days!) that people who have found the facility are now parking on the roadside rather than pay. No doubt London Midland want a return on their investment but doesn’t it show that if pricing was set at an “attractive” level more revenue could indeed be recovered? Perhaps if it was free as in the WM boundary even more people would be attracted to train travel from Lichfield in spite of LM’s performance on the Xcity line.

Judging by the high end Beamers, Mercs and 4x4s that are parked outside on the road I don’t think the pricing is the problem. Perhaps that’s how the rich get rich. These were all the people who said they had to park on the roads because there were not enough spaces yet now there are spaces guess what…they park on the roads!

Yesterday I spent 20 mins trying to find it ! Gave up and parked elsewhere. Needs brown or even blue P direction signs .It says at station:Extra Parking 500 yds. But where?

Off Burton Old Road from Europa Way, Britannia Enterprise Park. Have to agree there’s no signage and it should be better directed from the station. LM take heed.

From this new car park, can you only access platform 2 or can you also access the other platforms? For people walking or cycling from Boley Park it would be much quicker to access the station via Europa Way and Burton Old Road than Cappers Lane,Trent Valley Road and Station Approach. Thanks

Thank you Ross; I popped over last night after work to have a look. That makes accessing the station on foot from the Boley Park side of town much easier…as long as you’re able bodied, as you’ve pointed out.

What’s capacity like? Is it always full? I use B’ham Intl to go to London as I’m concerned that parking is so difficult at Trent Valley unless you arrive really early.

Yep! I have seen it from the bridge several times in the last 10 weeks but how the hell to you find the car park …sorry the post herdare not clear ..is it off Cappers Lane ..some where on Europa park which is a maze in itself ? How do you find it?

James: From the roundabout at Cappers Lane/ Austin Cote Lane/ Ryknild Street you go down Europa Way onto the industrial estate and then as the road branches to the left and right, before Tippers, you go straight on down Burton Old Road (the narrow road) and it’s just over the railway bridge.

Thanks for the reply Neil
I did find it after two failed attempts, going back to the original carpark and hauling my 84 year old arthritic friend over the foot bridge.
So! For anyone coming from Lichfield city centre herbare the instructions:
Past Tesco , pass Samuel John son Hospt
To wards Street Hay
At the island with Eastern Av TURN RIGHT into Cappers lane
Turn left into the big industrial estate
Take next left as if going to Royal Mail Sorting Office turn right immediately into very small road ,Old Burton road its down there
After spending so much building it could LM not pay a few hundred in sign posts?

It may be that London Midland has chosen not to actively publicise the new car park given the impending extension of the Britannia Enterprise Park by the development of the triangular parcel of land bounded by the A38, West Coast Main Line and the Lichfield to Burton Railway. Council notices have been posted around the area (one still on the lamp post by the LTV Jn Signal Box) and it would seem the nice new car park may be unavailable during the reconstruction of the narrow overbridge required to increase the load capacity
