Lichfield Garrick Youth Theatre bring Cats to the stage

Lichfield Garrick Youth Theatre return with their second Andrew Lloyd Webber production of the year – Cats, one of the world’s best known and most loved musicals.

CATS LOGOPre-audition open rehearsals are being held in April prior to casting, where prospective cast members from the area can go along to find out more about what is involved, and also to learn all they need for the audition dances and songs.

LGYT’s 45-strong cast will tell the dramatic and romantic story of a tribe of cats called the Jellicles who meet for the Jellicle Ball. That night they must make “the Jellicle choice”, deciding which cat will ascend to the Heaviside Layer and come back to a new life.

Based on T.S. Eliot’s Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats and award-winning music composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber, Cats has since been presented in over 20 countries and in over 250 cities, playing nearly 9,000 performances in its original London run alone, and to this day remains one of the longest running shows to play the West End and Broadway.

This production will be produced by Musical Director Oliver Rowe and Choreographer Jessica Lambert, backed up by the amazing production team at Lichfield Garrick Youth Theatre who help produce stunning theatre like Les Miserables and the recent The Phantom of the Opera.

The pre-audition open rehearsals are open to anyone in secondary school year 7 and above up to a maximum age of 21 by the time of the show – September 30 to October 4.

The first open meeting is on April 2 from 7.30-9.30pm at Scotch Orchard School, Lichfield, and then April 6 from 4pm-6pm at Holy Cross Church Hall, Chapel Lane, Lichfield.
