Whittington RFC concede six tries in Essington defeat

Whittington RFC conceded six tries as they went down 41-12 at Essington.

The hosts opened the scoring inside 15 minutes as an interception in midfield saw them go over under the posts for a converted try to add to an earlier penalty.

By the half hour mark Essington had claimed a second converted try as Whittington’s long hard season showed on the players.

Ten minutes later the visitors managed to score a try themselves after some good long pressure from the men in blue and white to help reduce the deficit.

Just before half time though Essington made sure of the bonus point as in quick succession a third and fourth try were added to make the half-time score 27-5.

The second period saw Whittington put up more of a resistance at the start, but before the hour mark had been reached the home side picked up a fifth try to extend the lead to 34-5.

Before the end Essington claimed a sixth and final try, before Gary Lawrence pulled a converted try back to make the final score 41-12.

Whittington’s final game of the season is at Aldridge on April 26.
