A leading Midlands triathlete has backed a world record attempt in Burntwood.

Princes Park – dubbed the smallest park in Britain – will play host to the World’s Shortest ‘Tryathlon’ event on May 5.

The light-hearted event at the Farewell Lane park will feature a ten-second cycle on an exercise bike, followed by a 55 pace run before swimming the final leg in a specially designed pool. The challenge is expected to last between 25 and 45 seconds and will raise money for the We Love Lichfield Fund.

Triathlete Ian Dempsey backed the event and said: “It’s a fabulous idea and really captures on a small scale the key elements of a triathlon at the same time as making sure the fun element is firmly to the fore.

“I’ll be there with some of my triathlon buddies to have a go myself and encourage others to join in with me.”
