Elford playground volunteers to celebrate tenth anniversary

A group of volunteers are set to celebrate ten years of looking after Elford’s playground.

Built in 2004, the attraction has been cleaned, painted and refurbished by good-willed locals ever since.

And their latest efforts saw a spruce up for the fencing, shed and equipment, while running repairs were also carried out on a swing.

A spokesperson said: “Everyone knew they had spent a worthwhile morning working on this village facility, with 15 people helping out.”

The group of volunteers will now be holding a fundraising effort at Elford Walled Garden on June 7 with a Wild West theme.

Music will be provided by The Slippery Hill Boys inside a marquee, while adjoining tents will feature a real ale bar and casino. There will also be a home-made chuck wagon selling cookies with a campfire in the orchard.

Gates open at 6.30pm. Tickets are £7 for adults and £3 for under 16. To book, visit the tourist information offices at Lichfield and Tamworth, or Whittington Post Office.
