A charity night is taking place in Lichfield in aid of Help for Heroes.

A meal, live music and fundraising auction will be on offer at the Virgin Active Gym on May 24.

The event is being organised by Steve Collins who has already raised £1,320 with a 90km trek through the Vietnam jungle.

“At some point in our lives we all hear or read a story which really moves us,” he said. “For me, it was an article I read about a group of wounded soldiers that had lost their legs but tackled Kilimanjaro by dragging themselves to the top on mats in aid of charity.

“It had a profound effect on me. The soldiers I read about humbled me with their determination that anything is possible.

“It was something that made me realise how selfish I was.

“Learning about the efforts of these brave soldiers inspired me to undertake this personal challenge.”

Tickets to the fundraising evening are £15. To book, email [email protected].

People can donate to the cause via Steve’s charity page.
