Lichfield Players invite audiences to show their sixties styles

The Lichfield Players have been getting into the sixties groove in preparation for the launch of the society’s next production.

Barefoot in the Park opens at the Lichfield Garrick on July 15 aAnd the cast and director are inviting audiences to rummage through their wardrobes, or indulge in a little vintage fashion, and come along to performances in sixties dress.

“The play is so sixties-centric,” said director Gina Martin. “It’s set in 1960s New York, so the costumes and staging all reflect that era and we’ve put together a fantastic sixties sound track, which should bring back happy memories for many of our theatre-goers.

“It’s a real feel-good comedy and we’d love audiences to step back in time and get into the spirit of the evening, not just emotionally but appearance-wise too.”

Players members had fun at Decades Vintage Boutique in Lichfield, where they tried on a range of sixties-style items from dresses and scarves to men’s shirts, glasses and a range of other accessories.

Barefoot in the Park is set in newly weds Paul and Corie’s New York apartment. After a whirlwind honeymoon, normality isn’t quite as romantic.

“Throw in a neurotic mother-in-law, an eccentric upstairs neighbour and a lot of steps up to the front door of the apartment, and watch the sparks fly.”

Neil Simon’s hit comedy runs from July 15 to 19 in the Lichfield Garrick Studio. Tickets are £10 (concessions £9 and £7). To book, call the theatre box office on 01543 412121 or visit www.lichfieldgarrick.com.
