Stage version of Open All Hours coming to the Lichfield Garrick

Classic comedy Open All Hours is coming to the stage in Lichfield.

The show has been put together after director Gary Simmons got permission to write a new script for the iconic TV show.

“I think it’s fair to say I’ve become an Open All Hours anorak,” he said. “I’ve watched every episode, visited the shop where the location filming happened and traced most props present in the TV show.

“The bike came from Clacton-on-Sea. It was in pieces and my father spent a long time restoring it. The notorious till came from Reading and the scales from just outside Manchester.”

And the stage adaptation will even feature a set including the famous shop, the kitchen and street outside.

“We felt it was hugely important that the audience feel a sense of nostalgia which is why we have tried to make the set look as much like the TV series as we can,” he added.

Gary has relinquished the directorial title in order to take the lead role of Arkwright.

He said: “If the audience have half as much fun watching as we’ve had in rehearsal they will be guaranteed a fantastic night out.”

Open All Hours will be at the Lichfield Garrick on September 20 and 21. For tickets contact the box office on 01543 412121 or visit www.lichfieldgarrick.com.
