TV Gardener, author and columnist Alys Fowler will be coming to Whittington to share her top tips about bee-friendly gardening.

She will give a talk at Whittington Village Hall at 4pm tomorrow (July 12).

Alys said: “Gardens are becoming one of the most important refuges for Britain’s wild and honey bees, providing chemical-free food, clean water and a place to nest.

“Taking steps to make your garden bee-friendly brings in other beneficial insects and wildlife too, helping your garden to find its natural balance. When the balance is right, there is no such thing as a pest problem, meaning less work for you.”

The talk forms part of Whittington and Fisherwick Environment Group’s Bee-Friendly campaign to encourage locals to manage their gardens to encourage wildlife and particularly bees.

Alys will also be visiting the finalists in the Bee-Friendly gardens competition and judging the winning entries which she will announce at the afternoon event.

Whittington and Fisherwick Environment Group chair Debbie Barnish added: “Everyone interested in bees and gardens should come along and hear Alys’s inspiring ideas on how we can all help to protect this creatures which are so vital to the health of our food and countryside’.

Entrance to the event (including talk and strawberry tea) costs £5 for adults and free for under 16s. Tickets can be reserved by calling 07808 471356 or visiting the group’s website.
