Lichfield City FC boss delighted with ‘satisfying’ start to the season

Paul Holt believes he could not have asked for anything more from his revamped Lichfield City side after they won on the opening day of the season.

A 2-0 triumph at Racing Club Warwick has seen City put an early marker out in the Midland Football League.

And Holt – who has added a number of new faces over the summer – believes there were plenty of positives.

“It was a very satisfying start,” he said. “Three points and a clean sheet – I couldn’t ask for much more.

“We controlled the game, especially the second half and defensively we were superb.

“Two of the new signings settled in really well, Tom Howard who we signed from Earlswood, and Zak Horrobin, who had a short spell at Romulus last season, did really well on Saturday.”

Even with the opening day approaching Holt was still busy revamping his squad with the return of Mark Rose after a spell at Boldmere St Michaels, while fellow striker Jacob Snape is also back after a period with Bromsgrove Rovers.

“We have also brought in former Stafford Rangers and Rocester midfielder Craig Hulme,” Holt added. “Craig is perhaps a week or two from playing as he picked up an early pre season injury.

“Simon Volante is another exciting signing for the club. He was Studley’s captain last season and was in my opinion the best holding midfielder in the division.

“Torgut Bilgimer made his debut on Saturday, while former Heath Hayes winger Sean Catley is another addition, so we now have a large squad full of quality.”
