The head teacher of a Lichfield school has hailed a “fantastic” set of A-Level results.

Nether Stowe School saw its best ever results – an achievement not lost on head Ruth Poppleton.

“These are fantastic results and I am very pleased for the students,” she said. “We have seen the requirements for the examinations change during the two year course, but it is very clear from these outcomes that the staff have kept abreast of the changes to prepare the students for these vital qualifications.

“I am particularly pleased to note that we have achieved the top grades in many subjects showing the breadth of high quality teaching.

“I would like to extend my congratulations to all the students.”

Lewis Heeley was one of the school’s star performers, gaining an A* and three A grades.

He said: “I am very happy with my results – I’ve worked hard at Nether Stowe throughout the years.

“I’d like to thank all my teachers. The quality of teaching, extra revision sessions and time they gave to supporting me made a real difference.

“It’s a weight off my shoulders to have been accepted on to the Chemical Physics course at Bristol University.”

Meanwhile, the school’s head girl, Florence Best, gained an A* and 2 A grades which will see her go to Homerton College at the University of Cambridge to study geography.

“I’m very happy to have secured a place at Cambridge,” she said. “I worked really hard and put in lots of effort.”

Matt Dodgson achieved an A* and two A’s and will be going to study Mechanical Engineering at the University of Sheffield.

He said: “I’m really, really happy. My teachers gave me the confidence that I could achieve and then organised extra help and support.”
