Michael Fabricant has insisted he will be taking nothing for granted as he campaigns to retain his Lichfield and Burntwood seat.

The Class War party’s candidate Andy Bennetts had suggested the vote was a done-deal, suggesting the Conservative candidate could “go on holiday” and still win.

But Mr Fabricant, who was elected with a majority of more than 17,000 last time out, insisted he was not intending to take his eye off the electoral ball.

“I stand on my record as MP for the constituency,” he said. “But I take absolutely nothing for granted.”

Candidates standing for the Lichfield constituency are:

  • Andy Bennetts – Class War
  • Michael Fabricant – Conservatives
  • Robert Pass – Green Party
  • John Rackham – UKIP
  • Paul Ray – Lib Dem
  • Chris Worsey – Labour

The main question on the lips of the voters is “Is it or isn’t it?”
