People in Lichfield and Burntwood are being warned to watch out for bogus insulation or boiler companies that are offering householders improvements.

There have been several reports from Trading Standards authorities around the UK of companies claiming to have government and EU backing and offering free work.

Some companies are also offering damp proofing work and wrongly suggesting that it will insulate the home.

A spokesperson for Lichfield District Council said: “Although there are genuine companies, some are illegally trading, giving wrong information and overcharging for their work, which carries no guarantees.

“There is also a risk that residents will be left out of pocket after putting down a ‘returnable deposit’.

“Residents are advised not to agree to any offer on the telephone or doorstep and not to pay any money.”
