Congratulations Mr Fabricant

I’d love to know what the reasons are for people voting for this man?

He doesn’t even live here, has no office, doesn’t run surgeries, fails to oppose closures of community services, votes with his party and not for the constituency interest.

We only see him when there’s a photoshoot for the Mercury.

Astonishing.

To keep the loonies away from the economy.

Some of the people have spoken.

because he’s a big posh Tory sod who stands for the wealth in Lichfield. Doesn’t speak for me or anybody in this town.

Have you checked Gideon’s borrowing recently?

Difference being last Labour government inherited a thriving economy, Osborne inherited wreckage.
I bet calling him Gideon makes you feel really warm inside.
On the subject of “hardly seeing” Fabricant: maybe one day the left will get it into their heads that most people don’t want authoritarian meddling and prefer live their own lives. I don’t care if I never see him again, what do you want him to do, ask how you are, did you have a nice holiday?
The worst thing I see in the Mercury are photo’s of our attention-seeking local councillors planting trees and standing outside fire stations, posing with yellow ribbons: what good does that do?

The Speaker

…and there you have the voice of Lichfield: “I’m alright, sod the rest of you”.
Thanks Rob. You could have offered to write The Clown’s campaign slogan.

Congratulations to Michael Fabricant on his re election with a slightly increased majority. Although I voted Green and hoped for a change of seat this is a democracy where some win and some lose.

I would never vote for Fabricant if he was the last person on the planet but he does spend alot of time in the area (has a house round the corner from me) and is often raising the profile of the area. I have to concede that he is a decent local MP – we could have a lot worse.
On another subject, am i the only one that thought it was illegal to advertise outside a polling station? The Green Party had a green bike right outside the guildhall polling station.

“Loonies away from the economy!” Oh well, time will tell. This isnt a sprint, it is going to be a marathon. The writing is on the wall for the “infinite growth mongers.” Again we see up to a third of the population not voting and now we see glib victors who will no doubt get back to supporting their wealthy friends with no regard for the rest. 3 leaders gone, how many more?

@Darryl:

I’m aware that’s his name, he calls himself George, hardly the first person to do that,I suppose you’ve got some Reg Dwight albums?

Anyhow, besides Labour’s defeat the most enjoyment has been the performance of the smug twitterati lefties. For the last couple of weeks they’ve been banging on about this being the first “social medja” election campaign and the print media no longer holding any influence.
In less than 24 hours thye’ve struck up the usual “Labour only lost because of the right-wing controlled press” refrain, as ever ignoring the Guardian and Mirror.
Maybe they should all get out more instead of just talking to each other.

Only 61.8% of the local voting electorate turned out to vote, and the Conservatives won on 55.2% of that figure.

Once again voter apathy hands victory to a minority of the local voting population.

We need an improved democratic system.

@Rob

What’s important, that I call him George or you admit that he’s borrowed more than Labour ever did?

The Tories pulled a master stroke and you believed them.
