Cllr Bacon said: “I am honoured to take up the role of chairman.

“I look forward to representing the district council at the many events and functions that are held throughout the year. It will be a good opportunity to meet local people to find out more about community projects.”

Her chosen charity will be the We Love Lichfield Fund.

At the Annual Council meeting last night, leader Mike Wilcox also announced Cllr Helen Fisher would take on a new role as cabinet member for tourism, while Cllr Doug Pullen will become cabinet member for community.

“I’m delighted to welcome two new members to cabinet and look forward to working alongside such a strong team.

“These roles have been created as a cabinet of eight will mean we will have more time to focus on our more specialised areas.”
