The home side started brightly and inside three minutes Jono Gould warmed the gloves of goalkeeper Jake Turner with an effort from the edge of the penalty area.

Striker Nathan Waite was next to try his luck for the Scholars with a right foot shot which Turner pushed to safety.

In a one-sided first half Richard Davies burst into the box, but again Turner was equal to the shot.

But the Scholars finally broke through in the 38th minute when a superb run from Stan Mugisha opened up the visiting defence and Waite swept the ball home.

The Gingerbreads’ first serious goal attempt came at the start of the second half with a curling free kick from Danny Meadows that John Bateman dealt with confidently.

The chances continued to come thick and fast and Ryan Wynter and Gould combined inside the area for Turner to dive to his right to deny Wynter.

Chasetown eventually doubled their lead midway through the half. Mugisha and Wynter teed up Davies whose shot was blocked by Turner, but Waite netted the rebound after more good work from Mugisha.

Patient build up from the home side saw Waite complete his hat trick with a near post header from a James Dance cross.
