The space has been created on the top floor of the theatre with the aim of giving local artists, schools and community groups a free space to showcase their work.

Artistic director Tim Ford said: “As part of our commitment to developing local people and talent and opening up the theatre to more young people, I am delighted with this new addition to the Garrick.

“This new learning and performance space is a wonderful opportunity for local people to book and use on a regular basis for meetings, workshops, rehearsals, performances, talks and showcases.

The community stage has sound and lighting equipment and a piano.

Tim added: “There will be an online booking form for people to book a slot and we very much look forward to welcoming local artists, groups and people into the theatre.

“I am personally really excited to see how the new stage will be used and accessed by our community and also look forward to welcome many new faces into our wonderful theatre.”

Local duo Chris and Dan will appear on the first night of the community stage tomorrow (September 22) at 7pm.
