The Canal & River Trust will hold a session at the Rugeley Rose Theatre at 6.30pm on October 15.

A spokesperson said: “We are keen to hear from residents, boater, walkers, anglers, cyclists, canoeists, businesses – or anyone else who uses the canal.

“The open meetings will be a chance to find out what is planned for canals in the area.

“There will also be a chance to find out about volunteering and canal adoptions.”

Anyone wanting to attend is asked to contact Sarah Rowland on 01827 252069 or email sarah.rowland@canalrivertrust.org.uk.

Just fill them in and create more cycle lanes, all free to use of course.

Why were the canals filled-in in the first place? I can’t think of any other canal anywhere else which has been filled-in. Why would someone go to so much effort of doing that?

Why is this meeting for Lichfield residents being held in Rugeley? It makes no sense.

They were filled-in in the first place because they weren’t maintained and thus weren’t used. The Cannock Extension beyond Yates’ boat dock and on to Hednesford being a single example of many.
I was merely thinking it would free up a bit of space on the towpaths which are currently occupied almost exclusively by cyclists.
