Tony Clarke had an early chance to put Gary Birch’s men in front, but spurned his one-on-one opportunity.

And he was made to rue that miss as Kyle Turner put Atherstone in front.

But Clarke soon made amends for his earlier miss with a leveller after 16 minutes.

The game was proving to be a lively encounter with Martin Crawford the next to go close for Lichfield.

Lichfield went in front just before the break when Joe Haines netted.

Defender Jon Huckfield should have wrapped up the points for City as he sent a free header over the bar, while Odane Barnes was denied by a smart-save from the home keeper.

But Lichfield held on to claim three points and leave themselves seventh in Division One of the Midland Football League.
