Lichfield City FC dump Chasetown FC out of the Walsall Senior Cup

Lichfield City FC shocked Staffordshire rivals Chasetown FC with a well deserved victory thanks to a second half goal.

The Scholars had a golden chance to take the lead when Garfield Robinson teed up Nick Turton with keeper Connor McCarthy on the floor, but the chance was blocked by Gavin Hurren.

Lichfield had the better of the first half chances though and Tony Clarke saw a shot dribble past goalkeeper Curtis Pond but also wide of the upright.

At the start of the second half the home side took the lead following a goalmouth scramble with full back Jon Huckfield netting from close range.

Substitute Stan Mugisha headed on target before Ryan Wynter acrobatically volleyed goalwards as the visitors tried to force an equaliser.

But it was the hosts who progressed at the expense of last year’s beaten finalists.
