Chasetown FC’s FA Cup heroes reunite for tenth anniversary game

Players from Chasetown FC’s two historic FA Cup runs will reunite for a game this weekend.

This year marks the tenth anniversary of Chasetown’s televised FA Cup clash with Oldham Athletic.

The Scholars almost pulled off a small screen giant-killing when Nicky Harrison netted against their Football League opponents in the game, only for a David Eyre strike to earn the Latics a replay.

Chasetown were unable to repeat the feat at Boundary Park as Oldham triumphed 4-0.

But three years later and Charlie Blakemore’s men were at it again, dumping Port Vale out of the competition before facing Cardiff City in the third round of the FA Cup.

The TV cameras clearly had an effect on the Scholars too as they again took the lead against Football League opposition.

But they were eventually beaten 3-1 with current Arsenal and Wales star Aaron Ramsey netted on his first professional start.

Now a number of players who turned out in those games will square off in a game at The Scholars Ground on November 8.

Among them will be Oldham goalscorer Harrison, former boss Charlie Blakemore, fan favourite Dave Egan and brothers Mark and John Branch.

The game kicks off at 1.30pm and admission is free.
