Independent retailers in Lichfield planning Black Friday 2015 offers

Independent businesses in Lichfield are getting ready to “step up their game” and show shoppers why they should continue to support them.

A number of retailers have come together to offer Black Friday offers in the city on November 27 in a bid to attract more people through the doors.

With the long-awaited Friarsgate development looming large on the horizon there have been some concerns over the impact big-name stores could have on some of Lichfield’s smaller outlets.

But Leanne Giblin, from The Angel Inn, insisted the city’s independent businesses were determined to make their mark.

“We are all concerned about what will happen when Friarsgate goes ahead,” she said. “But at the same time we’ve got to step our game up now and let people know we’re here so hopefully they’ll keep supporting us.”

The Black Friday offers initiative will take place with the support of the recently-approved Lichfield Business Improvement District (BID).

Leanne added: “As independents we decided we needed to do something together so we looked at some of the options.

“Black Friday is one of the things the larger retailers do, so with the support of the BID we asked if other businesses wanted to do something and those who do will feature on leaflets and have posters in their windows.

“Some have even decided to offer the different deals over the whole weekend too.

“we’re just trying to increase the footfall in the city and the easiest way of doing that is to do it together. One of us doing something alone won’t make an impact, but if we can all offer something different it can bring people into the city who might not have otherwise.”

Among the retailers taking part in the Black Friday initiative are.are:

  • Rieve
  • Alpha Sports
  • The Kitchen Shop
  • Room to Inspire
  • The Angel Inn
  • The Scales
  • Three Spires Coffee Shop
  • Golunski
  • The Lounge
  • La Boutique
  • Bijou
  • Michael’s
  • Fortescues
  • Bustle
  • ES Jewellery
  • Beau Beauty
  • Eleven Hairdressers

Leanne also revealed that plans were being drawn up for another food festival in the city before Christmas, while the impact of the BID was also likely to be seen during the festive period.

“We’re just waiting to confirm the final details, but were hoping to have mulled wine stalls, hot chestnut sellers street food on offer. There will also be stilt walkers and characters that kids will recognise from Frozen.

“The BID team are keen to put on a big magical Christmas next year, but this year we wanted to let people know what’s coming and giving them a taste of some of the bigger things we have in mind in future.”
