Chasetown FC left Rugby with all three points after an end-to-end game which could have gone either way.

The Scholars made the perfect start in the early kick off with a powerful run from Mike Williams whose shot sped off the greasy surface and through the legs of goalkeeper Liam Roberts at the near post.

Rugby thought they had equalised five minutes later but David Kolodynski’s close range volley was acrobatically tipped over the bar by John Bateman.

The hosts did level in the 16th minute though when defender Mason Rowley headed home from a corner.

Rugby started the second half the better side and took the lead five minutes after the interval as Kolodynski had acres of space inside the box to drill home.

The home side were in the ascendancy and Jake Healy looked certain to extend their lead with a curling right footed effort, but Bateman somehow got across to claw the effort out for a corner – a save of such quality that it brought applause from his opposite number.

That spurred Chasetown on and they went on to dominate the remainder of the half.

Right’s lead lasted just five minutes though with Stan Mugisha slipping the ball through to leading goalscorer Ryan Wynter who waited for Roberts to advance and finished coolly beyond him for his sixth goal of the season.

Chasetown won the points 14 minutes from time when Roberts’ goal kick went straight to Paul Sullivan who advanced on goal and his attempt was diverted into his own net at the near post by Sam Warburton.

Roberts denied Sullivan late on as the Scholars extended their unbeaten run in the league to five games.
