Proposals have been drawn up to introduce overnight closures at the facility in the Samuel Johnson Community Hospital.

The local Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) claims that user numbers during this period are too low to justify keeping it open.

A spokesperson said: “The CCG wanted to engage with as many stakeholders, patients and members of the public as possible on their proposal to change the opening hours at the units in Tamworth and Lichfield.

“The preferred option is to retain the units and keep them open during the hours when patients use them most.”

Surveys and drop-in sessions were held to gather views.

“Feedback from the survey and consultation events that were held over the last six weeks is now being collated and analysed and a report will be submitted to the CCG Governing Body in November,” the spokesperson added.

“The CCG will then make a decision on whether it will proceed with its proposal to change the opening hours at the units.”
