A report to a meeting of the local authority’s overview and scrutiny committee tonight (November 17) reveals that £424,410 is expected to be put back into general reserves – instead of taking £400,450 from the fund.

But the report from Cllr Christopher Spruce, Cabinet member for finance and democracy, admits the Chancellor’s review next month may still face a challenging financial future.

“The outcome of the Comprehensive Spending Review will not be known until December,” he said.

“The Treasury has advised the Department for Communities and Local Government to prepare for two scenarios – either a 25% or 40% reduction in its funding over the next five years.”
