Gritting teams are getting ready to hit the roads in Lichfield and Burntwood as the temperatures plummet overnight.

Staffordshire County Council will deploy crews through the night to treat all A and B roads.

Motorists are also being urged to drive with extra care.

Staffordshire County Council’s highways leader, Mark Deaville, said: “Tonight we expect to see the first sub-zero temperatures in Staffordshire this winter.

“Our gritting teams will be out across the county throughout the night if they get the call. They’ll be doing all they can to keep Staffordshire on the move.

“However people should always drive with extra care in icy conditions to ensure they and other road users remain safe.

“We’ll always treat our A and B roads if necessary and in prolonged periods of icy weather extend to some other routes.”
