Thousands of visitors are expected to visit the city for a Christmas market to commemorate the birthday of one of Lichfield’s most famous sons.

The Georgian-themed event is being organised by Lichfield Cathedral and Erasmus Darwin House on The Close from 9am to 4pm on December 12.

Marking what would have been Erasmus Darwin’s 284th birthday, the market will feature local and regional crafts and produce.

Chris Gray, events manager at Lichfield Cathedral, said: “We’re very excited to bring this event to the beautiful and historic surroundings of The Close.

“It’s going to be a really special event with something for everyone. Last year we welcomed 9,000 visitors to our Festive Food and Gift Fair, and we’re hoping to see just as many, if not more, at our Georgian Market this year.”

The event will also see entertainment from choirs and Georgian characters.

Anyone interested in having a stall at the event can contact Judith on 01543 306106 or email [email protected] for more information.
