A meeting of Burntwood Town Council this week will discuss developing a new working group for the Burntwood Wakes Festival.

Hundreds turned out for the inaugral push kart derby at Sankey’s Corner in August.

A recommendation from a working group has suggested July 9 as the date for next year’s push kart derby.

However, the Wakes is likely to be a shorter event in 2016, with a week-long programme of events the preferred option.

A report on this year’s event said: “The main issue was the lack of a ‘finale’ type event, possibly involving a concert with the aim of bringing the whole town together for one single event.

“Lots of people commented that they would like to see the main event brought back to its home at Burntwood Leisure Centre.”

The plans for the push kart derby and the 2016 Wakes schedule will be discussed at a meeting of Burntwood Town Council on Thursday (December 10).
