Appeal after 66-year-old man suffers serious head injuries in unprovoked New Year’s Day attack in Burntwood

A 66-year-old man is in a serious condition in hospital after being attacked in Burntwood during the early hours of New Year’s Day.

Two men carried out what police say was an “unprovoked attack” as he walked home with another man along Queen Street in Chasetown at around 1.20am after a night out.

He suffered severe facial and head injuries and was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham.

A 42-year-old man who was with him also suffered facial injuries but was not taken to hospital.

A Staffordshire Police spokesperson said: “The offenders – both described as white men – left the scene, running off towards Edward Street.

“The two victims are both local men. An investigation into this incident is now underway and anyone with information is urged to come forward.”
