Lichfield belly dancing group celebrates 15th anniversary

A Lichfield belly dancing group is celebrating its 15th year.

The group, which meets weekly at Boley Park, performed at Lichfield Cathedral as part of the Lichfield Festival market last year.

Class teacher Maria Credali said: “We learn a variety of styles, from Egyptian to Gypsy and have a ridiculous amount of fun using beautiful props such as veils and silk fans.

“I also regularly give talks to WI groups and always manage to get everyone up dancing by the end of the evening.

“I really do love what I do and I feel very prledged to be able to bring the joy of this most unusual dance to women of all ages shapes and sizes – our youngest so far has been two and the oldest 84.”

As well as learning the steps and moves, the group also regularly bond together.

Maria added: “It’s all about sisterhood – it’s lovely.

“We are a friendly bunch who enjoy welcoming new beginners.”

Anyone wanting to try belly dancing classes can call 01543 250756, or turn up at Boley Park Hall on Thursdays at 8.30pm.

“You dont need to come with a friend as you will have made some new ones by the end of the evening,” Maria said.
