After their home league form deserted them at the start of the season, it’s now 13 points from the last 15 at The Scholars Ground as Chasetown moved into the play off positions with a win over Daventry Town.

The fact the game was on at all was down to the efforts of a dozen supporters who worked tirelessly from 8am to get the pitch playable.

Chasetown started brightly and in the 20th minute, Chasetown’s James Dance struck the base of the Daventry post.

Two minutes later Jono Gould went on an amazing run into the penalty area and slid the ball to Nick Turton who marked his first league start of the season with a crisp finish.

The visitors ended the half top and Chase keeper John Bateman flicked a Barry Deacon effort over the bar before Ricky Hill headed against the crossbar.

Just after the hour, Chasetown were guilty of a defensive lapse presenting a chance to Mitch Piggon who made no mistake with a cool finish past Bateman.

Substitute Stan Mugisha was a whisker away with a cross drilled across the six yard box which narrowly eluded Ryan Wynter and also had a shot well saved by Ben Heath.

Daventry had a gilt-edged chance to pinch all three points when Piggon chipped up a cross to the near post and Edilson Antonio put a free header wide from two yards.

Chasetown went right up the other end and substitute Stan Mugisha advanced outside the penalty box and drilled a low which zipped along the wet surface beyond Heath.

Chasetown: Bateman, Williams, Edwards, Slater, Eze, Brown (Davies 68 mins), Washbourne (Mugisha, 63 mins), Dance, Wynter, Turton, Gould (Robinson, 77 mins). Subs not used: Francis, Pond.
