People in Burntwood are being urged to be vigilant after a bogus caller conned an elderly woman out of money in nearby Norton Canes.

The scammer called at a house in High Street before 11am yesterday (January 12) and claimed to be from the council. He said he needed money to repair a fence.

Police say he followed her into her home and watched her taking a large amount of cash from her purse before making off with the money.

The man is described as a tall white male of biggish build and wearing a black puffa jacket and a black baseball cap.

Anyone with any information is asked to call 101, quoting incident 183 of January 12.
