Funding available for Staffordshire Day activities in Lichfield and Burntwood

Community groups are being invited to apply for funding to create events to celebrate the first ever Staffordshire Day.

A host of activities are already planned for May 1, but Staffordshire County Council is hoping local people will also get involved.

The day is set to become an annual fixture on the calendar and grants from £100 to £1,000 are being made available through the Staffordshire Community Arts Fund.

Cllr Mark Winnington, Cabinet member for economy at Staffordshire County Council, said: “Staffordshire Day will be a great way of sharing our pride in the county, promoting all things great and help us attract even more visitors, boosting our already growing tourism economy.

“Other counties have celebrations like this but we don’t often shout about the many great things about Staffordshire, so having this day will help us tell the world about what a great place this is.

“We want everyone to be involved, so if you are thinking of putting on a community event, I would urge people to apply for our community arts funding and join in the celebrations.”

To make an application visit or contact Tracie Meredith on 01785 278571. Events must take place on or around May 1 and the closing date for funding requests is March 1.
